Objective
How many times have you sat through a tedious EMS Legal Aspect class, taught from a book that repeatedly covers the same boring material? My lectures present real life perspectives, within an entertaining experience. I am a paramedic who was charged, and stood trial for murder, in the death of a patient who was in my care. I can provide unique insights and information that you will not find anywhere else. I will walk those in attendance though my case, the incident, the investigation, the trial, and my life after the ordeal. Further, I will explain what a healthcare professional should expect, and what a healthcare professional should do, if faced with legal issues that arise from their employment. My presentation will introduce attendees to a serious medical condition that – although they may have never heard of it – can have grave consequences for their professional lives. “Excited Delirium” is the condition that killed the patient in my care that terrible day. The accusations brought against me were born of a lack of knowledge about this condition among my fellow healthcare professionals. Information about this medical condition is available, but there are few lectures that speak of it, and none in such a personal and dynamic program. I want to educate healthcare professionals about the condition’s existence and its treatment processes. My experience serves as a vital lesson for all healthcare providers. I will openly share my real life experiences in a fun and entertaining program aimed at education and retention of this critical material. Bringing this information to my fellow healthcare providers is a goal which I will pursue with all my abilities and effort.
