It Can't Happen to Me
This presentation covers three major topics: Excited Delirium, my personal legal issue, and handling legal situations facing health care providers. Attendees will be introduced to a little known condition: Excited Delirium. Every health care provider needs to be aware of this condition. They will get a first hand account of a health care provider’s legal case. They will also get first hand instruction in what to expect, what to do, and what not to do if they experience a legal situation. All this will be taught by a medical professional who has dealt with it – not someone just talking about what they’ve read. This lecture is something that every health care provider and law enforcement officer needs to hear.
You Can't Touch This
This presentation is a closer look at Excited Delirium: its causes, process and treatments. This presentation will allow those in attendance to leave with a comprehensive knowledge of Excited Delirium, what treatments to provide, and what treatments to avoid. This presentation is a "must see" for every health care provider and law enforcement officer, no matter what level of training.
Legal Eagle
This presentation is the first half of "It Can't Happen to Me" and is designed to fit into an one hour block. This presentation covers my legal case, facing murder charges, and what health care providers should be aware of if they face any kind of legal action that may result from their work in health care. "Legal Eagle" and "You Can't Touch This" are better suited when one hour time restraints are needed.
Designer Drug Update
It's impossible for every health care provider to stay up to date on the new street drugs that are being abused, they change often. "Designer Drug Update" is a constantly changing presentation that makes providers aware of the currently used street drugs, their presentations, their "Street" names, their ingredients, and their treatments. Some of these drugs you may have heard of, but many may have not reached your area yet and it's better to know about them before you come in contact with a patient that is abusing them.
Hot Flashes - Preventing Burnout
Burnout is often overused term. But, what is it? What Causes it? How do we prevent it? None of us EMS providers like to admit we are having problems, but we can't lie to ourselves. How do we stay focused on our profession? How do we maintain balance in our lives - personal and professionally? This presentation alerts providers to warning signs and destructive behavior that can affect their lives. It also lets providers know what to do keep their profession exciting and rewarding.
Using Your Ears
A fun and educating look at the Stethoscope: it's history and it's use as an assessment tool. Covering many parts of the use and history of the stethoscope that most health care providers may have never heard. This lecture is a good review of the use of the stethoscope and provides a solid education of the assessment of lung sounds and heart tones. Something we should use everyday, but may not be getting the most out of - the stethoscope.
Capnography
A Close look at the history and use of Capnography. It's not just for intubated patients, capnography has a wide variety of uses and applications. Capnography should be used as an assessment tool for all patients and gives health care providers yet another way of affectively assessing patients. Capnography - the "smoke of life" - can change how you look at the respistory status of your patients.
12 Lead EKG Practice
This lecture is just what it says - 12 Lead Practice. To be good at anything you have to practice. And the best practice it hands on. I will provide 50 unique, and real, EKG's and the class will be asked to read them, then we will have a brief discussion about each EKG and look for further findings. If you want to play in the game, you have to practice.
The Way We've Always Done It
A look at how we in EMS do things. A though provoking and entertaining lecture intended to make the EMS practitioner take a close look at how we do things in our profession. What we do right, what we do wrong, and what things we should change. Attendees will leave with a new perspective on some of the things we do in our profession and wanting to make improvements.
Patient Assessment for the Experienced Provider
We all know what we were taught in our EMT or Paramedic Course, but how does all that apply to the real world? "Patient Assessment for the Experienced Provider" is geared toward providers who have been in EMS for a while and explains what we all should be doing while assessing a patient - what works and what doesn't, what we should be doing and what we shouldn't, what will help us treat the patient better.
EMS Safety
This lecture will be coming soon. This will be a how-to course on protecting yourself while caring for patients. You will learn how to keep yourself out of dangerous situations and how to survive if you find yourself in a bad situation. This will not be a self-defense course; it will be a survival course.
